In an attempt to standardise food served on trains across the country, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has introduced a common recipe book to be used by all private caterers, dishing out snacks and meals to travellers. The IRCTC will work towards having menu cards installed on every coach of the train which will provide food details and call numbers in the event of any complaints or suggestions.
Foreigners and NRIs will soon be allowed to book train tickets online for domestic travel in India from abroad using their credit or debit cards.
On every Air India ticket booked by agents, the airline pays 3 per cent of the ticket cost as commission. The airlines earns around Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion) a year from ticket bookings.
This is expected to cut last-minute rush for reservations.
The rupee, which has depreciated about 23 per cent since May, has increased the loss ratios for the travel insurance segment.
The bookings under the 'Super Summer Sale' offer will remain open till Wednesday mid-night.
